An On-Ramp to ACCESS

ACCESS resources are available to U.S.-based researchers and educators – whether they’re producing open science using research computing or educating students in the classroom to show the power of  High-Performance Computing (HPC), ACCESS has tools available for any sized project or coursework. However, many organizations and universities have asked for a better way to share information about ACCESS resources locally with their community. That’s why ACCESS Allocations created On-Ramps – an online tool that can be embedded directly into a site so members can browse available ACCESS resources, filtered by feature.

The tool was made to be easy to add to institutions’ own online resource lists to help educate their communities about its full range of computing, GPU and storage options. All an organization needs to do is add a little code, prepared by ACCESS staff, to a page where they want the available ACCESS resources to appear. It’s that simple.

The information output on the page will include real-time system status and resource information. Several institutions were part of a pilot program for On-Ramps, and have already deployed webpages with the On-Ramps tool. Baylor University was among the first to utilize On-Ramps. They recently announced the new page with the ACCESS On-Ramps code embedded, allowing their researchers to easily find what’s available without leaving one of the websites they’re most familiar with – their home institution.

The NSF ACCESS program provides Baylor researchers with rapid access to cutting-edge resources that are not traditionally available at an emerging R1 Institution like ours. This partnership significantly levels the computing playing field, empowering our research community to pursue groundbreaking research using advanced computing resources.

You can find other examples of the On-Ramps tool through the University of Illinois Illinois Computes program, and Jackson State University where the tool has already helped a number of researchers discover the resources they need to help power their research.

If you’re interested in increasing the discoverability of research computing resources available to researchers of all stripes, you can find the code and instructions on the ACCESS Allocations On-Ramps page.
